Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Fawaaz Basadien has opened up about his mindset and determination as he continues to settle into life at the Tshwane giants, stressing the importance of patience, hard work and embracing competition within a squad packed with quality.

The 28-year-old parted ways with Stellenbosch FC to secure a move to the Brazilians in July 2025.

Over the course of his career playing in the top flight, Basadien has scored 10 goals and grabbed 19 assists in 148 appearances in all competitions prior to joining Sundowns.

However, Basadien has only managed to feature seven times for the Brazilians since joining the club.

“Of course, adapting to a new setup and earning your place in a team of such quality takes time,” Basadien told Sundowns Magazine.

“However, I understand and respect that I must fight for my place, as we have some exceptional defenders.

“That motivates me to work harder every day. I am also fully aware of the responsibility that comes with the badge.

“I feel confident that my skills and experience can add value to what Sundowns want to achieve on the pitch.

“I want to bring consistency, energy and leadership every time I step onto the field and help the team maintain our high standards.”
