Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has praised the extraordinary qualities of defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi after he played his final game for the Buccaneers.

Mbokazi played his final game for Pirates in style after helping the club lift the Carling Knockout Cup following their 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The 20-year-old will now embark on a new journey after sealing a move to Chicago Fire in the Major League Soccer.

The Bafana Bafana put pen to paper on a contract that will see him remain at the club until 2029, with a club option for the 2029-30 season.

“I think he has a good future. I believe he will improve even more,” said Ouaddou.

“I think in the US, they will help him improve in terms of leadership and communication because you need someone to take the lead from the back to push the lines.

“Hence, communication is very important because when you are a captain and playing as one of two central defenders, you need to command and take the lead since you have the game in front of you and you are seeing everything.”
