Durban City FC have officially confirmed the departure of head coach Gavin Hunt.
Hunt arrived at the club at the start of the season and was in charge of 16 matches, winning six, drawing four and conceding six defeats.
He parts ways with the club, with City sitting in eighth place in the Betway Premiership standings with 19 points from 14 matches.
The 61-year-old will now be succeeded by assistant coach Pitso Dlada, who will take over the helm on an interim basis.
“This was a mutual decision, taken with the Club’s best interests at heart,” Club Chairman Farook Kadodia said.
I’d like to thank Gavin personally for his hard work and dedication, and we all wish him well for the future.
“It is now the right time for change as we look to build a competitive side with the future in mind.”
Durban City have since released the following statement on Hunt’s departure:
Durban City Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Gavin Hunt has left the Club by mutual consent.
The decision follows a review of the footballing strategy conducted by the Board of Directors, which concluded a new approach is required to achieve the Club’s objectives.
Assistant Coach Pitso Dlada will take charge of the first team on an interim basis, starting with Wednesday’s fixture against Orbit College.
The Club will utilise the upcoming break during the Africa Cup of Nations to conduct its appointment process for a permanent successor. This timeline is designed to allow the new Head Coach a clear period to prepare the squad for the second half of the season.
