Amajimbos coach Vela Khumalo says his side showed “maturity and growth” in their opening 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup in Doha.

South Africa kicked off their World Cup campaign in style after they claimed a 3-1 victory against Bolivia at the Aspire Zone Complex in AL Rayyan.

Goals from Emile Witbooi, Neo Bohloko, and Shaun Els cancelled out a goal by Jesús Maraude to secure the win and all three points.

The win sees Amajimbos move to the top of the Group A standings with three points, while Bolivia sits at the foot of the group with zero points after the opening match.

“Our analysis was spot on, but was only disturbed by us being one man down, and that made us tweak and change our tactical approach to the game,” said Khumalo.

“However, we created the chances of still playing from transition.

“Our boys showed maturity and growing, understanding the technical changes and tactical flexibility that happened, and I’m proud of our boys honestly.

“It is very good for youth football, it helps. I did not get to use any of my advantage from my side but from the other side (Bolivia) they used it and think it is good for the development of football in the world.”
