Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso says Trent Alexander-Arnold “has to enjoy this match in his own way” upon his return to Anfield.

Trent made the move to the Spanish giants in a deal worth £10m after putting pen to paper on a six-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 26-year-old has already grabbed two assists for Madrid but has only featured 10 times due to a hamstring injury since joining Los Blancos.

Alonso has since confirmed that Trent is available for their Champions League clash against his former team at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

“Trent is fine, available, and he didn’t play the other day because of the circumstances of the match.

“He can play, and after his injury, we need him because he has tremendous quality.

“It’s a new stage for him, both professionally and personally, and we have to help him and give him what he needs to perform because he’s an exceptional player we have in this squad.

“He has to enjoy this match in his own way. His story is different from mine. He was born here. I remember when he was little and in the Academy.

“It’s great to be back, and it’s going to be great for him.”
