Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso praised Ronwen Williams and Tashreeq Matthews following their display against Durban City.

Goals from Marcelo Allende, Tashreeq Matthews and Iqraam Rayners saw the Brazilians secure a 3-1 comeback victory over Durban City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.

The win sees Sundowns occupy second place in the Betway Premiership with 18 points from eight matches, a point behind log leaders Sekhukhune United.

Cardoso heaped praise on Williams after he saved a penalty to deny Joslin Kamatuka in the first-half.

“Very important obviously, players appear on the right moments and today he kept the goal that boost the morale of the team in that moment and that as I say when one falls another rise and we made a mistake about the penalty and Ronwen was there,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the game.

“Very happy for him, he deserves these emotional, positive moments, he is a hell of goalkeeper and a man also.”

Cardoso also reserved special praise for Matthews after he ended his five-match goal drought in the Betway Premiership.

“Also, a player he has been suffering too much from the outside – the pressure on him is understandable because there were moments, he could not score the goals we all wanted to happen but no one can complain on the player that wants to make the best always and he tries,” he added.

“Today, he was happy and capable to finalise a goal to make the 2-1 and he will score many goals in the future for sure.”
