Chelsea star Cole Palmer says he had to repay manager Enzo Maresca by scoring goals after leading the Blues to victory in the Club World Cup.

The 23-year-old netted a brace as Chelsea went on to secure a 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final played at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday evening.

Palmer finished the competition with three goals and two assists in six matches to walk away with the Golden Ball award.

The England international was also named as the Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match and he admits that he had to repay his coach for the faith he has shown him this past season.
“It’s a great feeling. The gaffer put a great game plan out. He knew where there would space and tried to free me up as much as possible,” Palmer said.
“I just had to repay him and score some goals. He [Enzo Maresca] is building something special.
“I feel we’re going in the right direction.”
