Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi believes they are ‘one of the contenders’ to win the Club World Cup title.

Hakimi grabbed his first assist in the competition when he set up Ousmane Dembele for the winning goal in their 2-0 win over Bayern Munich.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form in the competition, having scored two goals and registered one assist in five matches.

The Moroccan right-back says his side continues to show their character each game and he believes they are one of the favourites to win the entire tournament.

“The coach gives me a lot of freedom, which suits me. Thanks to him, I’ve improved a lot. He’s helped me reach a level of play I never imagined. It’s made a big difference,” Hakimi said.

“When I was a kid, I started out as a striker. Those aren’t skills you forget. When you’re in the box, you feel it, you can taste it. And I like to enjoy that aspect.

“This year we’ve gone through difficult times. But I think the team has shown our character, standing together in tough moments.

“We were able to score the second and show that we want to stay in this competition, that we’re one of the contenders for the title.”
