Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a 4-3 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in a thrilling Club World Cup clash at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

The Brazilians got off to the perfect start when Lucas Ribeiro Costa stunned Dortmund by splitting their defence open to net the opening goal in the 11th minute.

Dortmund wasted no time in finding the equalising goal after Felix Nmecha found the back of the net five minutes later.

The German side took the lead for the first time in the game after 34 minutes through Serhou Guirassy before Jobe Bellingham opened his account for Dortmund’s third goal on the stroke of half-time.

Dortmund pulled even further ahead in the 59th minute when a deflection off defender Khuliso Mudau saw the ball find his own net.

The Tshwane giants reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute when Iqraam Rayners found the back of the net before Lebo Mothiba grabbed Sundowns’ third goal.

Sundowns were unable to complete the comeback as Dortmund held on to secure a 4-3 victory in Cincinnati.
