Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed striker Kylian Mbappé has been hospitalised with “acute gastroenteritis”.

The 26-year-old missed Los Blancos’ opening Club World Cup Group H encounter against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal on Wednesday.

The Frenchman is likely to miss their next game against Pachuca on Sunday and could potentially return when they take on RB Salzburg on Friday, June 27.

Mbappé has been in stellar form for Real this season and has netted 43 goals and grabbed five assists in 56 appearances across all competitions.

Alonso has since confirmed that he is unsure whether or not Mbappé will recover in time for the second Group H against Pachuca.

“I don’t know if Mbappe will be back for the next game (against CF Pachuca on Sunday).”

“We’ll see. He wasn’t doing well in the last two days. He’s sick.”

Meanwhile, the Spanish giant have released the following statement on the matter, which reads:

“Our player Kylian Mbappe has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalised for various tests and treatment.”

Real Madrid vs Pachuca is scheduled to kick-off at 9pm.
