Paris Saint-Germain secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Atlético Madrid in their opening Club World Cup Group B encounter at the Rose Bowl in California.

The match got off to a lively start, with both teams looking for an opening goal in the early stages of the match.

The French side were the ones to break the deadlock after 19 minutes when Fabian Ruiz fired a low strike past Jan Oblak to find the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Paris doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Vitinha darted through the Atletico defence before unleashing a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area.

PSG dominated the first-half and went into the half-time break with a comfortable 2-0 lead over Atletico.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia should have handed PSG their third goal early in the second-half, but Oblank pulled off an impressive save to deflect the ball on to the crossbar and away from danger.

Atletico thought they had pulled a goal back when Julián Alvarez found the back of the net in the 57th minute, but the video assistant referee disallowed the goal for a foul in the build-up to the goal.

The Spanish side were reduced to 10-men in the 79th minute when Clement Lenglet received his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card.

Diego Simeone’s men should have reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute, but substitute Alexander Sorloth fired his effort over the crossbar with Oblak well-beaten.

PSG eventually grabbed a third goal when substitute Senny Mayulu found the back of the net after Atletico failed to clear the ball away from danger in the 87th minute.

The French side were then awarded a penalty in injury time after VAR ruled for an adjudged handball in the area. Lee Kang-in stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake to slot home the penalty to put the game to bed.

Luis Enrique held on to their 4-0 lead until the final whistle to secure the win and all three points.
