Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart wants his side to build on their consistency after ending their decade-long trophy drought.

Maart scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute as Amakhosi held on to secure a 2-1 victory at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The 29-year-old guided his side to victory over their arch-rivals as Amakhosi ended their decade-long trophy drought to lift the Nedbank Cup title.

The Amakhosi captain was elated after lifting the cup after enduring a difficult season.

“We had a tough start to the league but, as management, technical team and players we managed to put in a good cup run to carry us though to the final, and with a great mentality, we brought it home,” Maart told his club’s official website.

“We haven’t had a great season in the league, and that is something we will have to improve on, but we all fought as a team and put a lot of work into bringing the Nedbank Cup back to Naturena.

“Cup games are different to league matches in a lot of ways, but mainly we want to build more consistency going forward.”

Maart also touched on scoring the winning goal that ended Amakhosi’s trophy drought.

“It was a great feeling to score in the final. On the field it is always tough; even when things aren’t going well you must never give up on trying your best,” he added.

“I believe that if you keep going and put in extra effort, you will get the rewards, so I am very grateful to have scored the winning goal.”
