Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has reflected on his side claiming a victory over arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby over the weekend.

The Buccaneers claimed the bragging rights after they came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Amakhosi at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Chiefs opened the scoring as early as the second minute through Makabi Lilepo but a 24th minute goal from Evidence Makgopa and a 69th minute goal by Relebohile Mofokeng saw Pirates walk away with the win.

The win sees Pirates remain in second place on the table with 49 points, they are now 15 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, having played three games less.

Riveiro’s side will have another opportunity to beat their arch-rivals when the two sides square off in the final of the Nedbank Cup played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on May 10.

“I can’t tell you because we play in one week again so as you say we try to do our job, we try to adjust things,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV after the game.

“We try to help the players look better on the field.

“Thank you to the guys, I think the effort they put on the field is second to none one more time this season all credit to the boys they doing a fantastic job.”

He added, “We didn’t have a good beginning of the game, a little bit slow, couple of mistakes and they got a couple of chances and first one they scored a goal.

“I think little by little we came back getting more and more control and I think the second half was for us from the first minute until the end.

“The result was a little bit short in the end, I think we had opportunities to get more advantage and finalise the game a little bit more, but I think a good football game both sides trying to find a result with good offensive football and a good show I think,” he concluded.
