SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo will look to use the remaining fixtures of the league campaign as preparation for next season to try to safeguard his players from injury.

The PSL is looking to get football in the country back up and running shortly within the safety of a bio-bubble in order to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

With the restart plan just needing Safa’s approval, teams are beginning to plan for all eventualities including a restart without much preparation time after nearly four months of isolation training at home.

Due to these constraints, Tembo admitted in an interview with the SA Football Journalists’ Association (Saja), that he will use the remaining fixtures as preparation.

‘In a normal situation, we would need six to seven weeks but we know we won’t be able to get that, so we might as well try and extend that into our games to go back,” Tembo explained.

‘Probably our next two or three games will still be part of our preparation [for competition], and then probably the last three games will also be part of preparations of getting into the new season.

‘So that’s how we’re going to try and break it, because for us it’s going to be challenging. There’s a huge risk of players getting injured, and it will be important for us to use five substitutes to safeguard the players from injury.’
