Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane admits that his side has been quiet in the transfer market because it’s difficult to find players of the same quality or better than his current crop.

The defending Absa Premiership champions have only made two signings so far this window – with South American Mauricio Affonso and Nyiko Mobbie, who is set to go out on loan.

Downs’ closest rivals last season Pirates, on the other hand, have made 10 acquisitions in the offseason as they look to go one better than their second-place finish last season.

Mosimane, though, speaking to SoccerLaduma admitted that his side has been quiet because they only need to buy what they need at Chloorkop.

‘I know you guys are disappointed with the transfer market with us,’ said Pitso.

‘The first season when I came to Sundowns I signed 11 players because I needed to change the team for the future. And we still struggled. Ever since that we are the quietest team in the transfer window – I have said that this thing of buying a lot of players is not the way. You need to buy what you need.’

‘I have Themba Zwane: if I bring a player in that position, it has to be someone who is, minimum, the same quality or better. And it is very difficult to find that in the local market. So, we are our own enemies because I have kept this team for the last five or six years, and it is the core. They have been there and – in my opinion – I am yet to see a player who plays there and can put them on the bench. If we don’t have that, why do we have to sign?’ Pitso concluded.
