Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp insists that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune still has an influential role to play at the club, despite a lack of game-time.

Khune has struggled to break into the starting line-up since returning from a long-term injury after Daniel Akpeyi’s impressive performances for Amakhosi since taking the number spot at Naturena.

The 32-year-old, who spent most of the season watching from the bench has only managed to feature twice for Amakhosi so far this season.

However, Middendorp insists that Khune still has a major role to play in terms of support his teammate.

‘We are happy and there is no doubt about it, to have Khune back in the squad,’ Middendorp told the media.

‘There is no doubt he is very influential in terms of putting support for each and every player.’

Kaizer Chiefs will next play host to Cape Town City when the two sides meet at the FNB Stadium on Sunday with kick-off scheduled for 3:30pm.
