Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has insisted that he needs more time to get ‘everything in the right direction’ at Naturena.

Chiefs were on a high heading into this past weekend’s clash against Baroka, after an impressive performance saw them book a spot in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Cape Town City.

Relegation strugglers Baroka, however, brought the Glamour Boys back down to earth as they earned a shock 1-0 win at the FNB Stadium.

After looking impressive in one week, and then equally disappointing the next week, Middendorp admitted to the media that he still has lots of work to do at the club.

‘I’m aware that it’s not really possible to get everything into the right direction in two or three months, we have a lot of work to do,’ said Middendorp.

‘We have to finish the season with as many points as possible and of course to get a better position in the league, and of course [do well in] the cup competition in front of us.

‘Crucial moments today were, first, Philani Zulu in the first half – you can’t get into a better position to score, I don’t know, you normally take a second touch and then put it in [the net].

‘In the second half, a crucial moment, you can’t be in a much better position as we had with Hendrick Ekstein, six seven meters from goal, and then give the goalkeeper a chance. I don’t know actually, it’s a little bit irritating. But we have to work it out and move forward.

‘Everything, in terms of players, the squad and what has to be done, we’re chatting a lot behind closed doors and we’re trying to monitor and guide ourselves to get the right squad, so that something like this does not happen. Hopefully we’ll make the right decision in future.’
