Chippa United midfielder Lerato Manzini believes his side showed professionalism after their Absa Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns was abandoned on Tuesday.

The Chilli Boys and the Brazilians saw their match abandoned in the 42nd minute due to a power failure at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.

However, the match was then rescheduled for Wednesday morning, with kick-off set for 10:00 to play the remaining 48 minutes. The match ended in a goalless draw, despite the extra time to prepare for the match.

The 26-year-old insists his side had to show professionalism after their match was abandoned. He says that his side came into the match with the intention to collect all three points, but is delighted to have earned a point.

‘We had to be professional about it so we were able to adapt,’ Manzini told the Maritzburg United website.

‘We were all ready to resume the game on Wednesday morning just like we were going to be for training.

‘The lads gave it their all. It is never easy playing Mamelodi Sundowns away. We did not come here for a draw, but full points,’ he added.

The Chilli Boys currently occupy ninth place in the Absa Premiership standings with 22 points, having won only five of 19 matches played so far this season.

Chippa United will next take on Platinum Stars when the two sides meet in the Absa Premiership on Friday.

The match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium kicks off at 20:00.
