Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela expects Free State Stars to play for a draw when the sides meet in a Premiership clash on Wednesday evening.

Ea Lla Koto have endured a tough start to the season and are currently winless after four matches. Now, with the prospect of a rejuvenated Chiefs on their doorstep, playing for a draw could present the most prudent tactic for the side.

‘One of the biggest challenges in coaching, especially when you are at a big club, is that certain clubs come out not to lose, and you have to go out and win the match,’ Komphela told KickOff.

‘So others play not to lose, while we have to play to win it’s a big difference. Those who play to win, take the initiative and they keep on going forward. But those who decide to play not to lose, they are comfortable sitting as long as they can only squash the threats,’ he explained.

Stars are currently without a manager but Themba Sithole, with whom Komphela has worked in the past, has taken charge on an interim basis.

‘I must be mindful of the fact that they just changed a coach. The previous one is no more and, obviously, the current one will have his own thinking, but players won’t change,’ Komphela commented.

The coach concluded his side will tread carefully but nevertheless go all out in search of three valuable points.

Kick-off for the clash is scheduled for 19:30.
