Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt admits the form of goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is a big concern after the 33-year-old cost Amakhosi against AmaZulu with an error, adding to his catalogue of mistakes this season.

The former Bafana Bafana No 1 failed to connect his punch properly in the closing stages of Chiefs’ clash with AmaZulu which allowed substitute Lehlohonolo Majoro to spoon in Usuthu’s winner.

Khune was the undisputed No 1 at Naturena for near on a decade but injuries and poor form have played a role in him having played only 23 league games in Chiefs’ last three campaigns‚ including 2020-21.

This season Khune has conceded 12 goals in his six starts in the league‚ a fair share of those from his errors. This forced Hunt to take Khune out of the team, and even the match-day squad, with Daniel Akpeyi taking his spot and Bruce Bvuma sitting on the bench.

Khune, however, made his return against Ushutu but it did not go according to plan as another error cost Chiefs.

‘Ja‚ it’s not the place‚ not the forum to talk about that. But it’s a big concern‚ yes‚ since I’ve been here‚’ Hunt responded at the post-match media conference when asked about Khune’s worrying statistics.

‘So, ja‚ it’s something we just have to keep working on and hopefully we can improve. But certainly I think it’s a bit more than that [12 goals] that you mention. So‚ ja‚ it’s a big concern.’

Ninth-placed Chiefs have another tough league outing on Saturday against second-placed SuperSport United at FNB.
