With the 2018-19 Absa Premiership fast approaching, Lorenzo Gordinho wants to take his game to the next level as he continues his search for regular game time, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

At a time when Steve Komphela was still at the helm of Amakhosi, Gordinho was surprisingly sent out on loan to Bloemfontein Celtic in January as part of a deal which saw Kabelo Mahlasela move to Naturena.

Despite the 24-year-old being one of Amakhosi’s standout performers during the 2016-17 season, he only made seven appearances for Chiefs during the first half of last season before moving to Phunya Sele Sele.

The Gauteng-born defender went on to make 16 appearances in all competitions for Phunya Sele Sele while only finding the back of the net once, against Chiefs’ arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium last April.

However, there are several Absa Premiership outfits that have shown interest in the defender, which could prompt Gordinho to leave the club if the situation at his parent club (Kaizer Chiefs) remains unchanged.

‘My objectives for this season are to take my performances to the next level and break the barrier that is in front of me, in order for me to achieve something I haven’t before,’ he told TFGSoccerClub.

With Phunya Sele Sele escaping relegation last season after finishing their campaign in 11th place with 37 points, Gordinho believes his side can improve on their previous form on the PSL table as they gear up for their opener against Chippa United.

‘I think the team will do better than last season as the common goal is always to improve and be better,’ Gordinho added.

The former Chiefs youth product also took the time to show his gratitude toward the fans who supported him and the club last season by saying: ‘I would like to thank them for their support throughout last season and that we are ready to go this season and to repay their faith in us.’

Bloemfontein Celtic against Chippa United kicks off at 3pm.
