Khama Billiat has revealed why he opted for a transfer to Kaizer Chiefs from Mamelodi Sundowns when an overseas move was on the cards for him.

The Soweto giants landed the marquee signing of Billiat from defending Absa Premiership champions Sundowns, despite the former Ajax Cape Town man being poised for a move abroad.

When asked about the factors that swayed his decision to join the club, Billiat mentioned Amakhosi’s respectful pursuit of him.

‘I considered a lot of things – my family and everyone,’ he told Kickoff.

‘And Kaizer Chiefs had been on top of everyone – showing love and interest in me. I respect that and I had no choice but only to come here.

‘There was a couple of them [offers from overseas] and, I think Chiefs, I respected them. I’ve always wanted to play for them and I was just waiting for them to say something so that I could move,’ he added.

Billiat also cited the move made by Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung, who reportedly visited his home in Harare, which is said to have sealed the deal.

‘It’s something that’s emotional, man. You know, coming to see my parents and talking to them has never happened in my career, and it’s something I take with my heart.

‘I really respect that, and my family supported that.

‘They felt so respected, and that’s all I need, for my family to be happy. I was so happy about it and I thank the club and Bobby for coming to see my parents and speaking to them,’ he concluded.
