Kaizer Chiefs have revealed that both Khama Billiat and Leonardo Castro are running a race against time to be fit for this weekend’s Absa Premiership clash against Baroka.

The Glamour Boys will host the relegation strugglers at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening as they look to switch their focus back to the league after their impressive exploits in the Nedbank Cup last weekend.

That 2-0 victory in the Cup against Cape Town City seems to have come at a price, however, with both Billiat and Castro picking up niggling injuries which could rule them out for this weekends game.

‘It concerns the calf area. The pain is subsiding, but we are watching him closely. He will undergo a late fitness test on Friday,’ Chiefs physio David Milner told the club’s website on the fitness of Billiat.

‘Castro is also under scrutiny. He picked up a comparable knock. He’s being monitored, and a decision will be made on his readiness to play this weekend,’ he added.

The club also confirmed that a number of other stars such as Itumeleng Khune, Lebogang Manyama, Erick Mathoho and Happy Mashiane still face some time on the sidelines.

‘Happy Mashiane remains sidelined, although he’s recovering well from a toe injury. Mulomowandau Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama, meanwhile, have resumed training after having recovered from an assortment of injuries. Itumeleng Khune is recuperating well too,’ concluded the statement.
