Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed his side to bounce back to winning ways after failing to collect maximum points for the first time since August.

Middlesbrough frustrated the Gunners with a disciplined performance at the Emirates Stadium with the match ending in a goalless draw as both sides shared the spoils.

The 67-year-old manager has called on his side to response when they welcome Championship side Reading to the Emirates Stadium in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

‘That’s our target,’ Wenger told the Arsenal website.

‘We have a game on Tuesday night so let’s come back to winning habits straight away. It’s [about] how you deal with disappointment and how you bounce back and I believe that the group is strong enough.

‘We lost the first game here against Liverpool and after that, we bounced back in a very strong way so that’s what we want to do again.’

Wenger says his side’s lack of sharpness and creativity in front of goal cause the Gunners failure to break down the Boro defence.

‘We had 75 percent possession but we couldn’t finish enough our combination play,’ he added. ‘We lacked a bit of speed and freshness in what we started, and at the end of the day, it was a frustrating nil-nil.

‘At least we were intelligent enough not to lose it, though because in the first half we were under threat a few times. At the end of the day we got the point, it is not enough, of course, but it is still a point.’
