SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter says he was pleased with his team’s performance against Orlando Pirates, following their 1-1 draw at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

Matsatsantsa were denied a chance to go top of the Absa Premiership standings after Thembinkosi Lorch’s 75th-minute equaliser canceled out Thabo Mnyamane’s opener at the Orlando Stadium.

The 63-year-old coach says he was delighted by the fact that Matsatsantsa stuck to their game plan to earn a point against the Buccaneers.

‘We talk very much about what we do, not about what the opponents are going to do to us, and let them try to deal with us,’ Baxter said after the match.

‘Yes, we tweak our shape a little beat to deal with the opponents, but we try to play our game. And you come to Orlando Stadium and you play your game and you score the goals and you create chances.’

Baxters says he feels his side were robbed of collecting all three points, after poor refereeing decisions to disallow Jeremy Brockie’s goal, judging him to have been in an offside position.

‘I know that Pirates have a lot of balls in the box, and I know there’s a lot of hearts in mouths, but I think, in general, the lads defended their box very, very bravely,’ he added.

‘And from that I think we had some good situations, it’s just a shame that two 100 percent [certain chances] were taken away from us, and that’s annoying.’

SuperSport United will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup when they welcome Royal Eagles to the Harry Gwala Stadium on March 15.

Kick-off has been set for 19:30.
