Ajax Cape Town were held to a 1-1 draw with Polokwane City, while Free State Stars claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.

Ea Lla Koto looked the more lively side in the opening exchanges of the match as they looked more intent in the final third.

Arrows first real opening of the match came in the 19th minute when Vuyani Ntanga fired his effort straight at the Stars goalkeeper from six yards out.

However, Ea Lla Koto opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Danny Venter curled his free-kick into the back of the net to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Stars came close to doubling their lead 10 minutes into the second half when Mohamed Anas was picked out at the far post, but Gumede produced a fine save to deny the striker extending his side’s lead.

Ea Lla Koto were gifted with a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 64th minute when Moeketsi Sekola’s strike hit the crossbar from six yards out.

Arrows pressed forward in search of the equalising goal, but could not break down Stars defence as they managed to hold on to their 1-0 lead until the final whistle to walk away with all three points.

Meanwhile, Ajax Cape Town were forced to share the spoils with Polokwane City following their 1-1 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Urban Warriors opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Grant Margeman latched on to a cross from Rheece Evans before finding the back of the net to make it 1-0.

However, Rise and Shine found the equalising goal in the 36th minute when Sipho Jembula played Rodney Ramagalela through on goal before he found the net as both sides’s shared the spoils at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
