The Premiership is set to return after two and a half weeks and all eyes are likely to be fixed on one enthralling fixture … Mamelodi Sundowns against Kaizer Chiefs.

The two meet in the first game of the round at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 15:30, reports the PSL website.

For Amakhosi, victory is essential if they want to stay in touch with the teams above them on the table. Steve Komphela’s men are currently third, a point behind leaders Bidvest Wits, who play Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium later on Saturday.

The Brazilians, meanwhile, are still finding their feet in the 2016-17 season after playing only three matches due to their successful Champions League campaign. Pitso Mosimane’s African champions are second bottom and tasted defeat in the Telkom Knockout in their last match.  Chiefs followed suit, bowing out of the same competition in their last competitive game.

Chiefs have a superior record having won eight of their last 20 league showdowns, with Sundowns winning six and the other six games ending in draws.

In other weekend fixtures, SuperSport United can go top for a few hours should they beat Baroka at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium and other results go their way. Third-placed Matsatsantsa are level with Chiefs on 15 points.

In another mid-afternoon kick-off, Chippa United welcome fifth-placed Cape Town City to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, before Orlando Pirates, in sixth, play their first league game since the 6-1 demolition by SuperSport when they take on Free State Stars in Soweto. Muhsin Ertugral has since been replaced with interim coach Augusto Palacios.

There are two games on Saturday night with winless Ajax Cape Town up against Maritzburg United at Cape Town Stadium, while the log-leaders Wits face Dikwena in Rustenburg.

On Sunday, another of the early-season pacesetters, fourth-placed Golden Arrows, travel to Makhulong Stadium to tackle Highlands Park, with the other game seeing coachless Bloemfontein Celtic entertain Polokwane City at the Dr Molemela Stadium.
