Mamelodi Sundowns look set to be without the services of right-back Thapeo Morena for their MTN8 first leg semi-final against Tshwane rivals SuperSport United.

The 26-year-old was sidelined for Sundowns’ 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday evening as he was mending a groin injury.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane revealed that the right-back could still be out of action for the Tshwane derby while the likes of Phakamani Mahlambi and Keletso Makgalwa remain sidelined with their respective injuries.

‘We have a lot of casualties. We don’t have Thapelo, we don’t have Phakamani [Mahlambi] and we don’t have Keletso [Makgalwa]. Those are the guys we don’t have from the attack who sustained injuries,’ Mosimane said earlier today at the MTN8 build-up press conference at the PSL offices in Parktown, Johannesburg.

‘But we are not complaining. Yesterday’s game took its toll on us. I hope our energy levels will be okay for Sunday, fortunately, we at least have two-and-a-half days to prepare, unlike if the game was going to be played on Saturday.

‘We are playing a very tough opponent and it’s never easy. We are playing a team on form.’

The match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium kicks off at 3pm.
