Chelsea have completed the signing of Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson on an eight-year contract from Villarreal.

The Senegalese player has signed an eight-year contract with Chelsea after scoring 12 goals in 26 games in La Liga last season.

Jackson, who is 22 years old, is said to cost £32 million ($47 million).

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: “We are excited to welcome Nicolas to Chelsea. He is a young player with big potential, as he showcased for Villarreal last season.

“We believe he is ready for this next step in his career and look forward to him working with our new head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, and his Chelsea teammates.”

After spending more than £500 million on new players last season, Chelsea had to get rid of a few players in the first few weeks of the transfer window to meet financial fair play rules.

Kai Havertz moved across London to join Arsenal, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly joined the stars leaving Europe for Saudi Arabia, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek joined AC Milan on Friday.

A deal has also been made to sell Mason Mount from Chelsea to Manchester United.

But they have also improved their direct attack, and next season Jackson will compete with French international Christopher Nkunku to be Pochettino’s first-choice number nine.

Last season, Chelsea came in 12th place in the Premier League, which was their worst finish since 1994.
