Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes his side reclaimed their bragging rights against Nigeria after thrashing Lobi Stars.

The Brazilians managed to secure a 3-0 victory over the Nigerian outfit in their Caf Champions League Group A clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Sundowns have now booked their place in the competition’s quarter-final with a game to spare, and current sit at the summit of the group with 10 points after seven matches played.

Mosimane insists that it is hard for teams coming from North and West Africa to come to South Africa and walk away with a positive result.

‘It’s important that teams, when they come from outside, from North Africa, should know when you come here [to Lucas Moripe Stadium] you can lose. Teams from West Africa, ASEC [Mimosas], Lobi Stars, when they come to South Africa you can lose and you can lose with big margins,’ Mosimane said after the game.

‘We scored three goals against ASEC, we scored three goals against Lobi Stars and two against Wydad [Casablanca].

‘It’s also a national agenda. Remember it’s a flag, you know the story of South Africa and Nigeria, who is bigger and better and some of the things need to be sorted out.

‘If Bafana Bafana doesn’t sort it out, we hammer three here and we make them chase shadows. So the national agenda is important. We beat the champions of Nigeria and we beat them 3-0, and nice, no argument of offside or what. That thing is important between South Africa and Nigeria. We are carrying the national flag and bragging rights are important,’ he concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns will now turn their attention back to the Absa Premiership when they take on Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday, with kick-off set for 7:30pm.
