Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley has given an update on his road to recovery after undergoing knee surgery earlier this year.

The 23-year-old suffered a knee injury in March following a hard tackle against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership.

After going under the knife, Dortley was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Belhar-born defender has since returned to light training and has joined Amakhosi for their pre-season tour of the Netherlands.

“I was tackled from the side. No yellow card was given to the opponent,” Dortley reflects back on his injury.

“This is my first serious injury that needed an operation.

“One has to be strong mentally, as you want to play, but you can’t. It’s not easy, but I do know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“I have a lot of support from my family. My girlfriend, my father, my mother, my brother… They are all playing a huge role on my road to full recovery.

“That’s how the team is. If one is injured, we can all feel the loss of a player. We are one!”
