The 2007 SA Rugby World Cup Final. It immediately evokes a sense of national pride, unity, celebration and one extraordinary ecstatic memory of the victorious win for South Africa.  Find out more about RWC 2007: 10 years on …

An exceptionally proud moment in South African rugby history and every good reason to remember and honour. It took some chats between a few former Springbok captains to spark A 10 Years On Campaign and the idea was born to remember the RWC win and all it symbolized at that time.

The campaign, which will see the World Cup winning Bok captain John Smit and his 2007 team assemble, where possible, at several key events planned throughout 2017 to raise awareness for appointed charities supported by the rugby fraternity and to celebrate reunions between the players.

At the heart of it, is a pride which drives and burns fiercely for the Springbok badge and honour.

John Smit affirms that ‘is a great opportunity for the group of 2007 to reunite after 10 years, enjoy each other’s company while raising some much needed funds for charity in South Africa. Our group feels it received so much from the game and South Africa and if we could give back in any way through the events planned in 2017 we would view it as a thank you to the game and this country for the support it gave us during our time.’

The South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) and Old School Group are delighted to announce that the first of the 10 Years On campaign events will be launched at the upcoming Zando Cape Town 10s on 3rd and 4th February. The VIP Invitational Team, sponsored by Sharp, will host some of these finest and most respected rugby players our country has cheered!

SARLA CEO, Stefan Terblanche, celebrates the collaboration and says ‘it is indeed a wonderful privilege to be part of this group and to relive some of the Rugby World Cup 2007 magic even though I wasn’t part of the Rugby World Cup winning team. Rugby means so much to so many South Africans and to share a special weekend with some of these special players at The Zando Cape Town 10s is something most supporters can only dream of. The South African Rugby Legends are delighted in playing a small part in making this happen in 2017.’

Over several RWC 2007: 10 years on events leading up to the Zando Cape Town 10s, you will catch Bryan Habana playing golf, Jean de Villiers at the official Welcome Evening, John Smit opening the 10s and Stefan Terblanche managing the side.

Joining them are the likes of Butch James and Percy Montgomery and they will be well supported by other 10s favourites which include two other Rugby World Cup winners – England legend and member of the 2003 Rugby World cup winning squad Josh Lewsey, Springbok 1995 World Cup squad member James Dalton, former Welsh international Hal Luscombe and former Boks Rob Fleck and Hanyani Shimange, to name but a few.

‘We look forward to seeing you at the Zando Cape Town 10s and the players will love your support and cheers from the sidelines…..let’s get behind this positive initiative and bask in those special memories! says Cape Town 10s co-founder Bob Skinstad.
