Manchester City right back Pablo Zabaleta believes his side’s performance against Celtic showed the character of the team following their 3-3 draw at Celtic Park.

The Blues went behind against Celtic thrice during the match but goals courtesy of Fernandinho, Raheem Sterling, and Nolito meant both sides shared a point each. Pep Guardiola’s side have now collected four points after two games in Group C and currently sit second, two points behind leaders Barcelona.

The 31-year-old says he is proud of the way the team fought to stay in the match and he believes his side showed real character against the Bhoys.

‘To come back three times when we were behind show’s the character of the team,’ Zabaleta told the Manchester City website.

‘We were a bit unlucky not to score at the end. We created a few clear chances and had control of the game in the second half. It’s true that we conceded in three key moments of the game, especially the third goal at the start of the second half but to come back was important.’

Zabaleta says it was not the result his side wanted but he is not worried about the result at Celtic Park.

‘We always play to win and of course, we should have won. It would have been a great step to qualify for the next round but at this level no games are easy. For us it was not the result that we were looking for but when you can’t win it is important not to lose.’

Manchester City will now return to the Premier League when they face Tottenham on Sunday.

The match at White Hart Lane kicks off at 15:15.
