Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has decided to remain at the club after considering his future at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

The 23-year-old joined Madrid from French Ligue 1 side Lens in 2011 for around €10-million has admitted to wanting to depart from the European champions.

Varane held discussions with Real manager Zinedine Zidane, however, the defender is now satisfied he can fulfil his ambitions in the Spanish capital, according to SkySports.

The French international feels he made the right decision to stay at the club after speaking to his manager and he says he will be working hard to improve his performance and have a good season.

‘I trust the club and I trust the coach,’ Varane said.

‘I talked with him a lot and he trusts me so it’s one of the reasons I stayed. I made the decision to stay, the right decision.

‘I’ll continue to improve and I want this to be a good season for me and to be at my best.’

Last season for Real Madrid, Varane featured 33 times for his side in all competitions, helping them to clinch a record 11th Champions League title after defeating city rivals Atletico Madrid in the finals.
