France and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from international duty at the age of 29.

The Manchester United defender made his debut for France in March 2013 under the tutelage of Didier Deschamps at the age of 19.

Varane has since played 93 times for Les Bleus, while also winning the World Cup with them in 2018 and finishing as runner-up last year.

The former Real Madrid defender has now become the second French player to announce his retirement from international football after Hugo Lloris retired as captain last month.

“I’ve been thinking about it for several months and I decided it was the right time for me to retire from international football,” Varane wrote on Instagram.
