Manchester City have announced the signing of forward Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras for a fee in the region of £27-million.

The 19-year old has signed a four-year deal with City keeping him at the club until the 2020-21 season, however, the striker will return to Palmeiras until December before he returns to the Etihad Stadium in January 2017.

Jesus opted to sign for City despite strong interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, reports the Manchester City website.

The Brazilian U23 forward insists he is relishing the chance to work under Guardiola and he is looking forward to showcasing his talent.

‘Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I’m really pleased to sign,’ Jesus said.

‘We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from.

‘I’m looking forward to showing the City fans what I can do and I think we’ll have a great future together!’

City director of football Txiki Begiristain believes Jesus will make a ‘big impact’ when he returns to City in January.

‘We are delighted that Gabriel has chosen to join us. He is one of the most exciting young prospects in world football and plays the game in a spectacular way,’ Begiristain.

‘We look forward to him making a big impact at Manchester City in January.’

During his debut season for Palmeiras, Jesus has scored 15 goals and assisted a further three from 19 appearances in all competitions last season for the Brazilian side.

He becomes City’s sixth signing, joining the likes of Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Aaron Mooy at the club.
