Defending champions Leicester City welcomed Southampton to the King Power Stadium on Sunday as the sides played out a frustrating 0-0 draw.

The match got off to a stop-start beginning as both sides committed a series of early fouls to hinder the tempo of the game. The first chance of the contest came in the ninth minute as Southampton’s Charlie Austin forced a save following a powerful header

Austin had another chance with another header in the 13th minute as Southampton took the ascendancy in the match. Austin then denied yet another chance as he fired wide after a quarter of an hour from a tight angle.

The Saints continued to press the attack as Steven Davis had a chance saved just before half-time before Islam Slimani and Jamie Vardy had two efforts blocked in quick succession around the half four mark. The last chance of the half came as Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez came close with a curling shot from outside the box.

The second-half resumed in cagey fashion as Nathan Redmond had the first chance of the half just after the hour mark. Charlie Austin then had another effort well saved before Daniel Drinkwater fired wide for Leicester after 65 minutes.

Drinkwater had another effort saved a few minutes later before Islam Slimani struck the post for the Foxes with a header.

With time running out in the game Shinji Okazaki headed wide before Cuco Martina fired over the bar for the Saints with just six minutes left on the clock.

In the end, neither side was able to break the deadlock as the game ended scoreless.
