SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter says he was pleased with his side’s performance after claiming a 4-2 victory over Cape Town City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday.

Matsatsantsa redeemed themselves against the Cape Town-based side after Thabo Mnyamane, Clayton Daniels, Jeremy Brockie and Thuso Phala cancelled out goals by Lehlohonolo Majoro and Lebogang Manyama.

SuperSport are now placed fourth in the Absa Premiership standings and have won 12 out of 29 matches played so far this season, trailing log leaders Bidvest Wits by nine points.

The 63-year-old says insists that SuperSport showed a real fighting spirit to come from behind and secure all three points against Eric Tinkler’s side.

‘I thought we played very well. We had two massive chances and started really well and then suddenly after six minutes, I don’t even know how, we contrived to give away a goal like that, but okay, we’re 1-0 down,’ Baxter told SuperSport TV.

‘[We showed] great character and we came back and I thought we played well through for the whole game and I thought it was a good game of football.

‘The lads want to finish it properly and they’re doing it well, they are running the games well and so far they have done a great job.’

With their upcoming Caf Confederations Cup clash against Horoya AC, Baxter admits that he will have to rotate his squad for their latest round of fixtures.

‘We’ve got so many games that we have to tamper, unfortunately. We’ll have to rotate on the weekend when we play in Caf. These players can’t play every three days for three months. I’ve got every faith in the players that are going to come in,’ he added.

Bidvest Wits will now travel to Goble Park when they lock horns with Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.

Kick-off has been scheduled for 19:30.
