Dylan Frittelli shot a flawless 66 at Al Hamra Golf Club on Thursday to leap 45 places up the leaderboard and into a share of 10th place at the Challenge Tour’s Ras Al Khaimah Golf Challenge.

The South African had a mediocre day in the middle east on Wednesday, but an eagle three at the 18th hole restored his chances.

He came back with a vengeance on Thursday morning and birdied five of his first eight holes out before reaching the turn in 31. His scoring slowed on the back nine, but a final birdie at the 15th set him at seven under par for the tournament and four strokes off the pace.

Top spot going into the weekend was held by Frenchman Romain Langasque, whose rounds of 66, 67 set him at 11 under par.

One stroke back and sole second was Sweden’s Pontus Widegren, followed by his countryman Marcus Kinhult and three others tied for third place on nine under par.

Frittelli currently ranks eighth in the Road to Oman, the Challenge Tour’s season-long points race that ends at the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final next week.

He’s already declared a desire to win the whole shebang, and his Friday 66 will go a long way to making it happen.
