The draw for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has been concluded, with some star pairings thrown together in the quest for glory, writes WADE PRETORIUS.

The draw on Tuesday night once again put together some interesting pairings, as well as the usual suspects.

Rory McIlroy, still chasing his first win of the season – he finished second last week at the British Masters – will team up with his father Gerry, while Australian cricket superstar Shane Warne will play with impressive Kiwi professional Ryan Fox.

Dylan Frittelli, enjoying the best season of his career, was handed American surfing icon and decent amateur golfer Kelly Slater as his partner. Frittelli, himself a surfing enthusiast, will be even more determined to put on a good showing at the championship, with another day’s play with Slater on the line should the team remain in the hunt for overall honours.

Proteas legend Jacques Kallis joins Christiaan Bezuidenhout, while Mark Boucher will play alongside Laurie Canter – a Brit who has campaigned on the Sunshine Tour in recent years. South African-born England cricket legend Kevin Pietersen will tee it up with promising Englishman Callum Shinkwin.

It’s not all cricket however at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, with Schalk Burger Snr partnering up with Jaco Ahlers, while in-form South African Haydn Porteous joins Springbok icon Fourie du Preez on the links in what promises to be a few exciting days.
