Japan came from behind to secure a shock 2-1 win over Germany while Spain ran riot over Costa Rica after hammering them 7-0 in their World Cup opener on Wednesday.

Belgium 1-0 Canada

A first half goal by Michy Batshuayi was enough or Belgium to secure a narrow 1-0 win over Canada at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.

Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved Alphonso Davies’ 10th minute penalty before Batshuayi fired the Red Devils to victory in the 44th minute.

Spain 7-0 Costa Rica

Spain got off to a flying start in their World Cup opener after they trashed Costa Rica 7-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha through a brace by Ferran Torres and goals by Dani Olmo, Marco Asensio, Gavi, Carlos Soler and Álvaro Morata.

Germany 1-2 Japan

Germany were left frustrated after they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Japan in their World Cup opener at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.

Ilkay Gundogan opener the scoring for Germany with a 33rd minute penalty but Japan fought back and levelled matters in the 75th minute through Ritsu Doan before Takuma Asano scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute to lead his team to victory.

Morocco 0-0 Croatia

Croatia led by Luka Modric were forced to share the spoils with Morocco after playing out to a goalless draw at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor.
