Bafana Bafana defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele is solely focused on securing maximum points against Nigeria to wrap up their qualification in the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles currently lead Group E with nine points after four games, while South Africa trail the leaders by a point ahead of their important encounter at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

In the last encounter between the two sides, South Africa managed to claim a 2-0 victory in their opening Afcon qualifier through goals from Tokelo Rantie and Percy Tau.

Mphahlele believes the squad that coach Stuart Baxter has assembled could be the winning team against the Super Eagles.

‘We have a very strong bond in the change room,’ Mphahlele told his club’s official website.

‘With some new players coming into the squad, finding such a welcoming camp makes it easier to gel into a winning team.

‘This is a must-win game. But we must play our normal game according to the plan that the coach will give us to master and apply on the day. That we have beaten them before will not count on the day.’

The Kaizer Chiefs defender has warned his side of the threat Nigeria possess, having claimed their only win over the Super Eagles in a competitive game on 10 June 2017.

‘Nigeria are always a hard nut to crack,’ he added.

‘They have good players with experience. It is good that we are playing in front of our supporters. The mood in the camp is positive and all that is left is to execute our plans.

‘We are not looking at the log, our focus is on a win every time we play.’

Bafana Bafana against Nigeria kicks off at 3pm.
