Amajita coach Thabo Senong has welcomed Reeve Frosler and Teboho Mokoena to the squad after their late admission due to club commitments.

The South African national team fell to a 2-1 defeat against Japan in their opening U20 World Cup Group D encounter at the Suwon Stadium on Sunday.

The Burger King-sponsored side currently sits third in the group with no points, same as Italy, who lost 1-0 to Uruguay in the other group match, while Japan and Uruguay are level on three points each.

The Amajita coach have now welcomed two players into the camp, who joins the squad late due to their club commitments, which includes Reeve Frosler and Teboho Mokoena.

‘Frosler is adapting very well. He managed to sleep about six hours, which is good – my biggest concern was that he would not be able to sleep for long as he battles the huge time difference, but he looks ok and is available for selection,’ Senong told Safa.net.

‘I also hope that Teboho, who has just joined us, is also available but we will see how things go with him.’

Meanwhile, Amajita first choice shot-stopper Mondli Mpoto missed out on training due to the flu, but should be back at training on Tuesday.

Senong says Amajita are disappointed by their first defeat in the competition, but insists his side needs to focus on their upcoming clash againstItalyy in their second Group D encounter.

‘We needed to refresh them a bit, obviously, they are a bit stressed after the loss on Sunday but we have to keep going and make sure they are fresh for the next match,’ he added.

‘We are in the competition phase now, so it’s always important to deal with the psychological part of the players – we need to motivate them all the time.

‘We are disappointed with the result against Japan but we are not discouraged, we still have six points to fight for.’

Amajita are now set to face Italy in their second U20 World Cup Group D clash when the two sides meet on Wednesday.

The match at the Suwon World Cup Stadium kicks off at 10:00.
