Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo made history by becoming the first player to score 100 goals in European competitions.

The Portugal international reached a unique milestone on Wednesday evening against Bayern Munich in their first-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, when he netted a brace to bring up his 99th and 100th goals in European competitions respectively.

The 32-year-old has a total of 97 goals in the Champions League,  whilst also having netted once in the competition’s group stage and twice in the Uefa Super Cup. Ronaldo is followed by Barcelona star, Lionel Messi  who has 97 goals and Real Madrid legend, Raul who netted 76 times.

Of those 100 goals – Ronaldo has scored 84 goals for Real Madrid with the remaining 16 coming from his spell at Manchester United. He has made 85 European appearances for Madrid, which sees him average nearly a goal every game in Europe.

The 32-year-old also scored twice in his only previous appearance in the Uefa Super Cup when Madrid defeated Sevilla 2-0 in 2014.

His goalscoring ability has seen him being crowned as the leading goalscorer of the Champions League on five different occasions.

Messi has 97 European goals, 94 of which have come in the Champions League and he is the current top scorer of this seasons competition with 11 goals for Barcelona.

The Argentine however appears unlikely to get many further opportunities to add to his tally  after Barca suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Juventus in the first-leg of their quarter-final clash on Tuesday, which leaves them on the brink of a Champions League exit.
