Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri hopes that a victory in his team’s last 16 Champions League clash with Sevilla on Wednesday will be a turning point in their season.

The current champions of the English Premier League have not enjoyed the best of runs in the league this season, hovering near the relegation zone. The manager emphasised how he will be approaching each and every game his side plays as of paramount importance.

‘The Premier League is a priority when there is a match in the Premier League. Now there is a match in the Champions League. The priority is always the next match.’ Ranieri told the Leicester City website.

The former Monaco and Chelsea manager pointed out that victory in tonight’s match could be crucial to saving Leicester’s season.

‘Tomorrow (Wednesday) could be the turning point. It could be everything. If we win, something could change. We need one match like this.’ he said

But the Italian manager is under no illusions as to the quality of the opposition that they’ll be up against in Spain. Jorge Sampaoli’s side are challenging Barcelona and Real Madrid for the La Liga title this year and are the defending champions of the Europa League. However, Ranieri is confident of his sides’ chances, should they produce the same form as last season.

‘We know in our mind we are the underdog. If you see in the last 10 years what Sevilla achieved, it’s amazing. They are used to staying at the top. They have good players, but we are ready to fight and ready to play our football,’ he concluded.

The Foxes will have to face Sevilla without their big-money signing Islam Slimani. The big Algerian striker is still sidelined with a groin injury, and Leicester wont be able to count on his Champions League experience for the first leg clash tonight.

The match between Leicester and Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium kicks off at 21:45.
