Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer is delighted to have finally ended his side’s six-match winless run in the Absa Premiership after edging SuperSport United.

The Soweto giants secured their first three points since the resumption of the league after claiming a 2-1 victory over SuperSport at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The Buccaneers have now moved up to fourth place on the league standings with 46 points from 28 matches played so far this season and seven points behind log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

‘I’m glad now, it was a tough time, it was a tough game for us. The opponent is not easy to play, it’s a good team and ja you go against two penalties, congratulations to Wayne [Sandilands], top job today,’ Zinnbauer told SuperSport TV after the match.

‘But it was a fight game for us, it was not a top game where we have the ball possession, 100 percent dominate. I told the players before the game that it is not important that we have this, yes in the future but we need to come back into the success and win the three points.

‘And yes we had the luck, the fight. We put 200 percent every player on the field fought for the three points, we can feel this. It was key today that we win the game.

‘I said to all the players [before the goal during the water break] that we were not in the game, we were not putting the pressure on the build-ups and told the players to come back, ‘make the performance what you can, play easy and quick’ minute to minute it came better and I’m happy now we have the three points.’

Zinnbauer added that Zakhele Lepasa showed good signs during training after he came off the bench to fire the Buccaneers to victory against the Tshwane giants.

‘He [Zakhele Lepasa] gave us options in the last training sessions, he gave us signals that “I’m ready, I’m ready”, yes you need a bit of luck as a coach, you bring him in and with his first touch he scored. I’m happy he scored, he made good work. Long time he waits and comes in and now he gets the success, I’m happy about this.

‘The last two games is a quick [turnaround] I know but the next game is important for me, now it’s important we have a good recovery and we have to see what will happen,’ he added.
