Newly-crowned champions Bidvest Wits have confirmed that the club has opted against exercising the option in Jabulani Shongwe’s contract, according to agent Jazzman Mahlakgane.

The midfielder has barely featured for the Clever Boys this campaign and has made only two appearances, both coming in the Nedbank Cup against Cape Town All Stars and Jomo Cosmos respectively.

Following a meeting between Shongwe’s agent and the club, an agreement was reached which sees the midfielder being released from his contract when it expires on 30 June 2017.

Mahlakgane has revealed that the club will not exercise the one-year option n Shongwe’s contract and he is now free to move to a new club of his choice.

‘The only comfort we are taking out of the meeting we’ve just had right now with the club is that they will not exercise the option,’ Mahlakgane told KickOff.com.

‘Now it’s between any interested team and Wits. Anybody interested in the player can come to Wits. The bottom line is that Wits will not exercise the option they had on the player. So from now he is available.’
