TFGSoccerClub takes a closer look at the career of newly appointed Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer.

The German coach will take over the head coach role of the Buccaneers after signing a three-year contract with the club.

The Buccaneers have also confirmed that Rhulani Mokwena will continue as interim coach until Zinnbauer’s work permit is granted and will return to his position as assistant coach alongside Fadlu Davids once this is done.

Zinnbauer’s coaching career started at VfB Oldenburg as head coach in 2005 where he stayed until 2010.

He then became an assistant coach at Karlsruher SC, before appointed as head coach of Karlsruhe’s reserve team from 27 March 2012 to 30 June 2012.

Zinnbauer started coaching the reserve team for Hamburger SV on 1 July 2014 in the Regionalliga Nord. The reserve team won 4–0 against Goslarer SC 08 in his first match as a head coach.

He also led the reserve team to eight wins in eight matches prior to becoming head coach of the first team on 16 September 2014, replacing Mirko Slomka, who was sacked the previous day.

In his first match in charge, his side played to a goalless draw with Bayern Munich, but after a bad run of results he was released on 22 March 2015. Peter Knäbel, sports director for Hamburg, took over for the remainder of the season.

Zinnbauer returned to the reserve team for the 2015-16 season and was there until he was hired by FC St Gallen on 15 September 2015, where he remained until 2017.
