Watch as Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane speak about the challenges that South Africa is facing during the Covid-19 pandemic at the World Football Summit.

World Football Summit where the Football Industry Meets, WFS is the international event of the football world, where the most influential professionals converge to discuss the most relevant topics and generate business opportunities.

The event was held virtually on the 10th of July and was hosted by Carol Tshabalala and had distinguished guests like Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba, Caf Commercial Director Abdel Bah and Hicham El Amrani (Head of HEA Sports.

They spoke about the African perspective: an overview of African football of tomorrow.

‘We are reaching our peak now like how America, Italy and Spain did, we are in that space now and it’s winter and we are trying our best. When you looking at football we are just getting back to training and we are following the protocols,’ Mosimane said.

‘I have based my models on what I have seen in Europe and we know Europe has the support as compared to Africa financially, Uefa had so much to give but we doing our best in terms of testing and I have based my teams model on Man City even though we do not have the same resources, I just copied their model from even stuff like the parking lot and won’t take anything for granted.’

Mosimane also spoke about how ‘African must not be slept on as we have the personnel, the brain capacity and it is just that we do not have the resources that Europe or Uefa have. We have turned our stadiums into businesses and they are self-sufficient. Look at how the production of the CAF Champions League has been, the standard of the pitch is up there also when the teams come and play we put them in beautiful hotels.’

‘We must applaud CAF also with the CAF Pro Licence, that is what we been talking about coaching education. If you look at the quality of Al Ahly, Wydad, Raja Casablanca and Mamelodi Sundowns. I mean we played Barcelona and they had the likes of Iniesta, Messi, Xavi and Rakitic and everyone thought we will get a big hiding but we showed what Africa has. We went to the World Club Championship and we did not embarrass the continent. Africa makes Europe great concluded ‘Jingles’.’
