Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler insists SuperSport United will be out seeking revenge after they beat them in Telkom KnockOut Cup final last season.

The Cape Town-based side and Matsatsantsa are set to go head-to-head in a thrilling Absa Premiership clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday.

The last time the two sides met in the Absa Premiership in December, the encounter ended in a 1-1 stalemate at the Cape Town Stadium, when a stoppage-time goal by Lebogang Manyama cancelled out Kingston Nkhatha’s opener.

Despite SuperSport’s being out of contention for the Absa Premiership title, Tinkler believes that his side should not ‘take them lightly’.

‘I guess against SuperSport, there is a bit of history there. We beat them in the Telkom final last year, so they will want to redeem themselves,’ Tinkler said in a pre-match conference.

‘We certainly can’t take them lightly. They (SuperSport) had aspirations to win the title early on this season, so they will still want to ensure that they finish as high as possible.

‘They have a lot of quality and depth in their squad – but, for us, the important thing is that we just have to focus on ourselves.’

Cape Town City will be hoping to close the gap at the top of the Absa Premiership standings when they take on SuperSport United on Tuesday.

The match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
